SHILLONG:   Deficit teachers of Meghalaya under the banner of  Khasi Jaintia Deificit School Teachers’ Association  and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ would  soon meet the Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma to seek a clarification about the inclusion of deficit teachers under the  5th pay Commission.

Talking to media persons after the joint meeting of the two groups here on Saturday,   KJDSTA President, ED Nongsiang while expressing happiness over the 5th Pay Commission asserted that the deficit teachers  were included in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Pay Commission and they were expecting that   the deficit teachers would be included in the  5thPay Commission as well.

However, deficit teachers were surprised with the statement of the chief Minister, Mukul Sangma  wherein he stated the terms of reference of the Pay Commission are for government employees whereas for deficit teachers, there are different schemes.

“Most of the teachers were surprised and we feel we should be included in the 5th Pay Commission  as we were included in the previous revisions of pay,” he said.

Later, the deficit teachers sought clarification from the officials right from the  level of Principal Secretary  to Director and  they were assured that the they would be included in the  5th Pay Commission    as was done earlier.

“If we are not included in the new pay revision, we are ready to negotiate and depending on the situation, we will decided what is to be done,” he said.

If the deficit teachers are included in the 4thpay Commission, around  6000  deficit schools  teachers in the state would benefit.
