SHILLONG: BPL families in the city will have to wait for some more time as houses for them at Lumphira in Nongmensong will be inaugurated after verification of genuine beneficiaries.
Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh said the department was taking time to inaugurate the remaining dwelling units as it has to verify the antecedents of the beneficiaries, besides ensuring that only genuine BPL families are allotted the units there.
“We don’t want to miss on any genuine BPL families,” he said.
According to Lyngdoh, the department wants to inaugurate the remaining dwelling units at the earliest and accordingly, the DC office will be asked to complete the verification of families at the earliest.
The government plans to build 600 units, around 100 units, which were inaugurated long time back had been handed over to beneficiaries.
Initially, Hindustan Prefab Limited (HPL) was assigned the project but later the firm abandoned it. Then Meghalaya Urban Development Authority was tasked with completing the project on its own under JNNURM.
