SHILLONG: Unlike state leaders like late PA Sangma and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, the former chief minister and sitting MLA from Nongpoh, DD Lapang, did not follow dynastic politics. Lapang did not promote his son or his relatives, including grandchildren, in politics.
“I gave full freedom to my son but he did not like
politics and I did not persuade him,” Lapang said.
When asked about the prevailing dynastic politics, Lapang, however, said on Saturday that if there is a winnability factor, there is no harm in allowing relatives to contest the polls.
“If the wife of a politician has winnability factor, she can contest the polls as this will add to the numbers,” Lapang said.
According to Lapang, if there is no chance to win, then relatives contesting the polls will have no relevance.
