Sonowal wants budget allotted funds spent within March 31

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a meeting to review the expenditure of budget allotted funds by all departments on Sunday and asked for expenditure status of all departments till now. The heads of department apprised him about the expenditure positions of their respective departments.

Sonowal directed the departments to ensure utilisation of budget allotted funds within March 31, 2018 and he also asked the department heads to adopt proper action plans to expeditiously utilise the funds within stipulated time in the right way. He also urged the top officers of the departments to hold review meeting with the subordinate officers every two months to ensure proper implementation of planned works from the bottom level itself.

Saying that every department must perform their duties with utmost professionalism, Sonowal urged the department heads to dedicatedly work to complete the works within March 31 next without any delay. He also directed to ensure employment of local youths in the construction sector and to facilitate engagement of the engineers passing out from the engineering colleges of the state in the construction field.  He stressed on the importance of adopting latest technology to complete the construction works on time.

In the meeting, the chief minister was apprised by the Public Works Department (PWD) that though the central government has set a target of building 2000 kms of roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) in the state, PWD has set a target of constructing 3000 kms of roads and 600 contractors have already started work on various projects.
