NONGSTOIN: Buoyed after getting a ticket, National People’s Party candidate from Mawshynrut Gigur Myrthong has urged all party workers in the constituency to start a full-fledged campaign for a “landslide” victory.
“Getting the NPP ticket is the first step towards victory. But the real fight has just begun,” Myrthong told reporters while urging party workers to launch the campaign in the constituency in West Khasi Hills district.
Myrthong along with his supporters and well-wishers are in jubilation mode after the NPP ticket was allotted to him.
Gardinal Sohshang NPP Working President, F.Rashir General Secretary and other party members have all congratulated Myrthong on the allotment and extended their support. “I have told my well-wishers that the aim of the party in Mawshynrut should be to usher in a change. The NPP will form the government in 2018 and only the party could fulfill the aspirations of the people,” he said.
He dispelled rumours that the NPP in Mawshynrut had suffered a split during the party ticket allotment.
Myrthong assured that the party was very much united and that preparations were on to attain a landslide victory. “It is true that I have lost two good friends, H.L. Nongsiang and Petrus R Marak, who left the party. Nongsiang will contest as an Independent while Petrus has joined the BJP. But the party has not been affected,” he said.
He thanked the state NPP for fulfilling the people’s wishes as the people had asked for a local candidate besides extending his gratitude to the members of the NPP Mawshynrut Block for their support in securing the party ticket.
Asked who his nearest rival was, Myrthong said it was HSPDP. “But after the NPP ticket allotment, even the HSPDP has been weakened as most of the people desiring change have joined me,” he said.
