TURA: The regional United Democratic Party (UDP) has on Monday filed an RTI in the GHADC seeking detail information on utilisation of central funds amounting to Rs 100.71 crores that was released to the council by the Union government for developmental works last year.

The party in Garo Hills informed that they decided to file an RTI after getting reports about non-completion of many projects under the allotted central funds which was given under the Special Plan Assistance.

The NPP was in power when the Central government released the funds although some of the members of the previous body are also in the current Congress-led Executive Committee.

“We have sought various details, including advertisements floated, sanctioning authorities, completion reports, running bills amongst others and hopefully will get to the bottom of the corruption if there is any,” said the UDP’s youth wing president.

There have been widespread allegations of funds misappropriation with the current Congress EC even filing police FIRs against some contractors for withdrawing the money without even executing the work order. A few Council officials are also under the scanner for the misappropriation.
