SHILLONG: Shillong MP Vincent Pala said on Monday that the exit of Congress leaders, including DD Lapang, from the electoral fray may create a negative impact in the upcoming Assembly elections.
He, however, said the entry of young people to fill the vacuum could make a difference.
“If the new candidates can emerge victorious, there will not be any impact over leaders refraining from contesting”, Pala said.
Lapang had said these developments would not affect the prospects of the party in the polls.
He also said young leaders with fresh ideas and vision should be encouraged to contest.
Besides Lapang, deputy chief minister RC Laloo and health minister Roshan Warjri had opted out. Several Congress MLAs are also set to leave the party.
