Rynjah woman’s family meets cops
SHILLONG: The family of the woman from Rynjah, who was found dead in her house under suspicious circumstances, met the SP City here on Tuesday. The police reiterated that it is awaiting the postmortem report of the woman. “After getting the report, we will take the call whether it is a murder case or a suicide,” police said.

Browny Marak made election icon of East Garo Hills
WILLIAMNAGAR: With a view to create awareness among the youth to enroll themselves in the electoral process, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Kumar, has roped legendary Garo singer, Browny R Marak of the famous Garo rock band, Riprap, as an election icon of East Garo Hills district. According to the Deputy Commissioner, the idea behind the initiative is to motivate youths above 18 years to enroll themselves in the electoral roll and exercise their rights in the forthcoming election. The legendary singer will also promote the significance of election and the importance of voting through his songs.

Graduates’ union completes 50 years
TURA: To mark the completion of 50 years, the Garo Graduates’ Union Tura will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee at Tura District Auditorium on December 2. Tura MP, Conrad Sangma will attend as the chief guest and the union has requested all its members including the general public to attend the function. 

Retired KHADC official joins BJP
SHILLONG: The BJP Mawkyrwat Mandal has welcomed Polanding Sohphoh to the party at a meeting in Mawkyrwat Dorbar Hall on Tuesday. A statement issued by Mihsalan Khar Turnia, the vice-president of BJP Mawkyrwat Mandal, said Sohphoh joined along with more than 200 supporters. State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh was present in the meeting. A retired superintendent (enforcement) of KHADC, Sohphoh belongs to Sakwang village. Turnia said the joining of Sohphoh will strengthen the party at Mawkyrwat which is preparing for the Assembly elections in 2018. Speaking at the function, Lyngdoh expressed satisfaction at the joining of Sohphoh and urged the party functionaries to work hard for the party.

Tura NPP leader resigns
TURA: Sengkal A Sangma, Joint Secretary of the National People’s Party (NPP), Tura Nodal Office, who was also the chief advisor to the Dalu Block NPP has resigned from the party’s primary membership citing personal reason on his resignaion letter on Tuesday.

Awareness on poultry farming
Shillong: The District Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Shillong, organised an awareness programme for farmers on ‘Poultry Farming’ on Tuesday at Conference Hall, Mawryngkneng C & R.D Block. David Nongrum, MLA and Chairman MTDC, who graced the occasion as the chief guest praising the initiative taken up by AH&Vety Department for the economic upliftment of the local farmers, said that poultry farming with a special emphasis on Kuroiler will help the community in raising their standard of living.

Fr James Alberione remembered
SHILLONG: Fr James Alberione, founder of the Daughters of St Paul, who runs the Shillong-based Pauline Book & Media Centre, was on Monday remembered by Most Rev. John Moolachira, the Archbishop of Guwahati, on Feast day celebrations in Guwahati. “Fr James Alberione, whose memory we keep today, was above all a man who believed in the primacy of prayer, and who spent a minimum of four hours daily on prayers, on a par with the time that he put into building a Church media network which was his dream,” he said. Fr Alberione founded Daughters of St Paul was on June 15, 1915.

Meeting on small firms held
SHILLONG: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Shillong, in collaboration with the Department of Commerce and Industries (DC&I), conducted a Town Hall meeting on Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at Shillong Polytechnic, Mawlai on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by the officials from SIDBI, NABARD, KVIC, KVIB, Public and Private Sector banks and DCIC, East Khasi Hills besides entrepreneurs from different parts of the district. As speaking at the meeting, Anurag Asthana, GM (OIC), RBI Shillong highlighted the various enabling measures taken by the RBI to facilitate the growth of MSMEs in the country. I Z Wreang, Assistant Director, DC&I addressed the participants and exhorted the existing as well as to be entrepreneurs of the state.
