SHILLONG: The Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) Tura has been completed more than a year ago but the facility is yet to be inaugurated.
Officials said the West Garo Hills district administration had submitted a concept note on the bus terminus to the Transport Department around three months ago.
The concept note emphasises on the technical expertise of Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) in running the terminus. It has also suggested hiring of a consultant to suggest on how to make the terminus functional.
It is also learnt that some studies have been conducted on ISBT in Guwahati, which is running smoothly.
Talks on constituting a society or a committee comprising officials of MTC, district transport office, police and other wings of the government to make the ISBT functional are also on.
The Centre sanctioned Rs 45 crore for the project that covered 90 per cent of the total cost. NBCC provided the remaining 10 per cent. The Tura ISBT will accommodate 50 buses at a time plying to and from all corners of the state to the West Garo Hills town.
The terminus is also expected to reduce traffic congestion in Tura town.
When asked about the involvement of transporters that will play a pivotal role in the functioning of the ISBT, officials said Tura Pubic Transport Services which run plenty of maxi cabs and buses are on board and they have agreed to ply from the terminus.
Now, other transporters’ associations, like night super buses, pick-ups and Sumo associations, will have to be taken on board.
