NONGPOH: Public Health Engineering Minister of Meghalaya, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh on Thursday inaugurated Patharkhmah Combined Water Supply Scheme in a function held at Patharkhmah.
The scheme which was started in way back in the year 2007 and funded under the Minimun Needs Programme at a cost of Rs. 75,624,800/- will benefit as many as five villages of Patharkhmah area in terms of providing better and safe drinking water.
Though, the project was completed after a decade since it was started in 2007, it came as a major succour for the residents of five villages comprising Umsaw, Barigoan, Patharkhmah, Umphung and Umkadhor as from now on they need not worry on the water crisis which they used to face in the past so many years.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh lauded the efforts of the PHE Department for proper implementation of the scheme while expressing hope that it would cater to the needs of the local people in terms of getting sufficient drinking water supply throughout the year.
As crores of public money were spent for the construction of this project, Lyngdoh exhorted the local people to work hand in hand with the department to take care of the project so that it will serves it purposes and that the people would no longer face water scarcity in the near future.
The inaugural function here was also attended by the additional chief engineer of PHE, M. Allya, executive engineer of PHE Nongpoh Division, D.D Umdor, Syiem of Hima Jirang, H. Wahlang, headmen of various villages and local people of Patharkhmah area.
