WILLIAMNAGAR: Meghalaya State Food Commission in collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner of Supply, East Garo Hills organised a one-day District Level Awareness Camp on National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 at District Auditorium Hall in Williamnagar on Wednesday.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, RC Laloo attended the event as chief guest.
Laloo spoke on the National Food Security Act and informing about the setting up of District Grievances Redress Offices in all the districts of the state, he said that people can now apprise the concerned officers of their grievances and other issues.
He also urged the other implementing agencies like the Social Welfare and Education departments to strictly adhere to the guidelines of National Food Security.
Informing that the Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts have been made the District Grievance Redress Officers, urged the people to come forward and lodge their complaints regarding food supply of ICDS and Mid-Day Meal Scheme.
He added that the beneficiaries under NFSA in the urban areas of Meghalaya are 50.87% whereas in the rural area it is 77.79%.
Meghalaya Minister for School Education and Literacy, Deborah C Marak, in her address, said that the NFSA is implemented with a view to uplift the weaker section of the society who cannot afford to buy sufficient food.
