SHILLONG: A polling booth committee meeting was held at Tura Congress Bhavan on Wednesday. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Congress Meghalaya informed that it is now strengthening its Booth level committees, quietly creating an army of volunteers, putting a person in charge of 50 odd voters in every booth.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Vijaya Laxmi Sadho AICC secretary in- charge Meghalaya which was presided by Mukul Das Gen. secy MPCC. Kamol Marbaniang Gen. Secy. Shillong City was also present and informed that ‘Congress booth committees are ready in most parts of the state. The statement also added that Congress’s efforts to strengthen its grass root connect by forming booth level committees in all the 60 Assembly constituencies was functioning flawlessly.
East Garo Hills district admin to conduct coaching classes
WILLIAMNAGAR: The deputy commissioner, Ram Kumar, informed that the East Garo Hills district administration will be conducting a two-day counseling for the civil services aspirants on 6 and 7 December next under the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance Scheme at DRDA Hall No.1 in Williamnagar. Sir Shankar from Shankar IAS Academy, Chennai, will be in Williamnagar to inter-act with the aspiring students and also to enlighten them with the best examination tips of the IAS mentors. The counseling will also include coaching for other competitive examinations like banking, state public services, etc. Kumar also informed that the district administration will also be conducting coaching classes for Civil Services for the session 2018- 2019 for which an examination will be conducted to select the potential candidates. The graduates and final year students will get the opportunity to undertake the classes. It was also informed that the necessary forms and other details may be obtained from the Research Officer, District Planning Office, Williamnagar. The aspiring students are to submit the forms in the office of the Research Officer latest by December 5.
Guv to honour gold medalists
SHILLONG: Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad will felicitate two local youths- Pynshai Mawrie and Sanbor Lyngdoh Nongpuir—who recently bagged Gold Medals in Asian Jeet Kune-Do martial art championship, at a public function to be held in Rilbong on December 1. While Pynshai won top honours in 48 kg weight category at Uzbekistan, Sanbor picked up gold in the same category of Asian meet at Pattaya in Thailand last week. The function is being organised by Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust which has been devoted to serving the needy communities since 2005. On this occasion, the Trust will hand over BPL Cards to 500 struggling families which will enable them to obtain fixed quantities of certain essential commodities for the next 12 months. The scheme will cost over Rs 25 lakh to the Trust. There will also be a distribution of computers and financial support to some educational institutions, sports bodies and social organisations.
Tura band to release album
SHILLONG: Tura based rock band, Eye2eye is set to release its sixth album ‘Nitogipa Sangre’ literally translating to ‘Beautiful Angel’ by December. The band has been working on the album since the beginning of 2017. The recording and mixing of the tracks have been based in Bluesound records at Tura. The album will consist of fifteen songs. Among the fifteen songs 12 are in the local rustic language including two Christmas songs, two English tracks and one instrumental. The band members of eye2eye include Bruno sangma on lead guitars and vocals, Clevius sangma on rhythm guitars and vocals, Mongera on bass guitars n backing vocals, Martho sangma on Drums and backing vocals and guest vocals by Bilseng Marak. The band will be promoting the album by organising rock concerts in the coming new year.
67yr old man reported missing
SHILLONG: One Dolington Kharsuklang (67), known as Duh, went missing from Demthring, Shillong since November 7. In a statement issued by the Superintendent of Police, the identified is described as a 5ft man having partially grey complexion with a snub nose. He was last seen wearing a grey coat with track trousers and black slippers. Blood donation camp organised
SHILLONG: Over 183 students came forward to donate blood out of which 118 units were collected during the blood donation camp held at St. Anthony’s College on Wednesday. The NSS Unit of St. Anthony’s College in collaboration with Nazareth Hospital and NEIGRIHMS Hospital Shillong held a Blood Donation Camp at the conference hall and the auditorium of the college.
