MAWKYRWAT: A youth leader of the National People’s Party (NPP) in Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills has joined the Congress along with his supporters.
Bitnam Nongsiej, secretary of the Youth NPP Ranikor Block, and 25 families from Sarin village recently joined the Congress in presence of vice president of local leader Kit Nongrem.
With Nongsiej in its fold, the Congress, which never won from Sarin polling station, is now hoping for the best.
“The Congress never won from Sarin. In 2013, we supported UDP and in the 2014 MDC elections, we supported Air Marshall Diengngan in which they won,” Nongsiej said.
On why he quit NPP, Nongsiej said he left the party after Diengngan was denied ticket.
“I could not follow him anymore because he jumps from one party to another,” said the young leader while referring to Diengngan who left UDP and NPP in a span of three to four months and has now joined PDF.
