SHILLONG: Union Tourism Minister Alphons Kannanthanam, who visited Lum Sohpetbneng on Saturday, said the government will develop it as a spiritual centre.
Lum Sohpetbneng in Ri Bhoi, known as the navel of Heaven, is a place of pilgrimage for those who follow the indigenous Khasi religion.
Every February, followers of the indigenous Khasi faith gather at the hillock to offer prayers.
“We will engage local architects to provide a facelift to the site,” Alphons said.
The minister said besides developing the area as a spiritual centre, the government will also examine the need to have an amphitheatre and yoga centre in the area.
