TURA: Close on the heels of surrender of two other ultras on Sunday, another rebel from the GNLA has given up before police in East Garo Hills on Monday after leaving his shelter in neighbouring Bangladesh.

GNLA militant Chandro G Momin alias A’dare surrendered without any weapon at Era A’ning under Nongalbibra police station to acting police chief of East Garo Hills R T G Momin.

He revealed to police that he had been stationed in the outfit’s camp at Dorakgre.  In 2015, police raided the camp leading to an encounter in which he sustained a bullet injury and had to be taken to Bangladesh for medical treatment. He was kept in the neighbouring country with four other cadres but over the time got disillusioned with the group.

He left his place of shelter in a Bangladeshi village and quietly slipped across the international border into Garo Hills on Saturday and headed towards East Garo Hills district.

Hailing from Mahadeo village of Rongara in South Garo Hills he was convinced to join the rebel outfit by GNLA commander Hebel who was later killed in a shootout with security forces. He underwent arms training in 2014 and was part of the 6th batch of recruits of the militant group.
