SHILLONG: In a significant development in the poll-bound Meghalaya, sitting Congress MLA from Raliang, West Jaintia Hills, Comingone Ymbon, who is the Power Minister of the state, has resigned as a minister in the ruling Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA-II) on Monday through a letter tendered to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.

Ymbon who also holds charge of C&RD, GAD departments, has cited personal reasons while tendering his resignation.

Speculations were rife that Ymbon, might join National People’s Party (NPP) along with a number of other Congress legislators who are all set to join NPP.

The other Congress MLAs expected to join the NPP are Sniawbhalang Dhar from Nartiang, MLA Pynursla Prestone Tynsong, MLA Umroi Ngaitlang Dhar, MLA Mawkyrwat Rowell Lyngdoh from Congress.

Dhar, Tynsong, Lyngdoh were three Congress MLAs who were dropped from the ministry during the last Cabinet reshuffle effected by the Chief Minister.

Other politicians who have been attracted to the NPP included two Independent MLAs, Stephanson Mukhim and Hopeful Bamon, and a United Democratic Party (UDP) leader, Remington Pyngrope.
