SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has asserted that road development in the state has been lopsided as more emphasis has been given to road development in Garo hills by the PWD (Roads) department.
President of the youth wing, Thomas Passah further pointed to the biased attitude of the PWD (Roads) department citing instance of the latest tender notified by the PWD Roads where in some areas are given more importance than others.
“The tender notified have shown crores of rupees for repair/construction of roads located at Garo Hills, whereby less emphasis is given to roads located at other regions,” he stated.
Terming it as biased and unjustified, the KHNAM, state youth wing, in a memorandum to Chief Engineer PWD (Roads), stated that the state government through the PWD department have turned a blind eye to road development in Khasi Hills District, Jaintia Hills District and Ri-Bhoi district.
According to Passah, equal distribution of developmental projects should be ensured to all areas of the state at all time.
He expressed surprised that no amount has been allocated for the repair/construction of Wahkaji-Mawthabah road in South West Khasi Hills although funds have been promised by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
Passah maintained that for the overall development of the state, the developmental activities, especially road condition of other areas located in other districts should be taken into consideration.
