SHILLONG: Federation of Khasi States spokesperson, John F Kharshiing met US Consul for Political and Economic Affairs (Kolkata), Prasenjit R Gupta here on Tuesday and briefed him about the challenges faced by the indigenous people of North East.
Kharshiing, who is also the chairman of Ka Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar ka Ri Hynniewtrep, apprised Gupta of the traditional institution of self government including role, functions, responsibilities and status of the Dorbar Kur, Dorbar Shnong, Dorbar Raid and Dorbar Hima which find no mention in the Constitution of India.
“They are mute spectators to the Indian system of parliamentary elections as traditional institutions are party less and based on referendum and consensus,” the Federation of Khasi States spokesperson said.
