SHILLONG: The forest department has stopped issuing of challans in Dawki for export of limestone and boulders following the allegations of misuse of challans.
An inquiry was also ordered into the matter, a forest official said on Wednesday.
The allegation is that a limestone quarry owner got several challans from forest department and sold them to miners for Rs 7,000 per challan per truck of 9 metric tonnes, which is against the rules related to minor minerals.
The SDO (civil) Sohra had also carried out raids in parts of Sohbar and Mawlong to check illegal extraction of limestone and boulders since Monday.
