SHILLONG: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, AT Mondal has claimed that appointments in the State Assembly have been “minimised”.
Talking to media persons here on Thursday, Mondal said jobs were given to people earlier due to exigency of work after the heritage building was gutted in a devastating fire.
“We have appointed them 15-16 years back and how long can we keep them as temporary since they have gained a lot of experience and we also require them,” he said.
The Speaker also maintained that internal interviews were conducted for the appointments which were made in the Assembly even as he reiterated that he has minimised appointments and that there were
no direct appointments during his tenure.
Replying to queries, Mondal affirmed that employees were needed since the Assembly complex is scattered in many places.
He also stressed the need to have a recruitment policy for appointments in the Assembly, saying they would follow recruitment as well as reservation policy in future for appointments with complete transparency.
“I am not for more recruitment until there is a special requirement since we have developed an inbuilt software system,” he said, while informing that the Assembly Secretariat is planning to go online where everything will be available at the click of a button.
The Assembly Secretariat was in the news after an RTI application filed by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said Laban MDC Ricky Shullai is allegedly working as a peon in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly even as he won the by-election to KHADC last December.
