GUWAHATI: Two persons, both employees of Assan’s health department, have been arrested by Assam Police after they were found to be involved in sending SMS to five persons including four state Congress leaders, asking for `superi’ (contract) of Rs five crore to kill BJP leader and Assam’s health, education, finance etc., minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma through bomb blast in his own constituency.
The two arrested persons were identified as Paban Ali an d Fakharuddin Ali who have been remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody on production before the court today. Both of them hail from Hajo area under Jalukbari Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC)represented by minister Dr Sarma and both of them are employees of the state health department.
They allegedly sent the SMS simultaneously to five persons – former chief minister Tarun Gogoi, former Congress minister Rakibul Hussain, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora, a Congress leader Dulu Ahmed and an employee of the state secretariat Arup Kumar Roy.
Former minister Rakibul Hussain claimed that he had alerted the DG of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay as soon as he had received the SMS and advised him to start a thorough investigation on the basis of the SMS.
State DGP Mukesh Sahay told the media here that the state police had arrested two persons after tracing the SMS and registered a case under IT Act and further investigation was on. “We have traced the offensive SMS and arrested two persons. Investigation was on the find out the details and veracity of the SMS,” the DGP said adding that it may be a mischief by some disgruntled elements too. The DGP, however, denied to admit that the SMS was a threat to the life of Himanta Biswa Sarma who is protected by Z-category security cover.
Meanwhile, APCC president Ripun Bora and Congress leader Dulu Ahmed commented that there might be some political conspiracy behind the SMS which was sent to political opponents of the health minister and demanded a thorough probe by the CBI to unearth the truth. Dulu Ahmed demanded that the at least six months call records of mobile phones of the arrested persons who hail from the Assembly constituency represented by Himanta Biswa Sarma, must be checked.
