SHILLONG: Cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has said she would stick with the Congress thereby brushing aside speculations that she would leave the party. “I will stick with the party and I am even ready to sit in the Opposition if we are not able to form the next government,” Ampareen said.
In 2008, she had contested and won on a UDP ticket, and in 2009, she resigned from UDP and switched her allegiance to the Congress.Soon after the Assembly polls in 2008, the non-Congress political parties formed the government which, however, lasted less than a year.
“At that time, there was instability and President’s Rule. We did not want to be under President’s Rule”, Ampareen said, giving reasons for her resignation from UDP.
Asked about her brother RG Lyngdoh, Ampareen said he was welcome to contest and she is even ready to make way for him.
She said because of the stroke and related illness, he was not in a position to contest the polls in 2008.
