SHILLONG: A joint team of Ri Bhoi and Assam police on Saturday raided a coal depot suspected of buying coal in defiance of the orders of the National Green Tribunal and causing loss of revenue to the Meghalaya government.
The coal depot was located at 15 Mile Sonapur on the Assam side of Byrnihat, said Ri Bhoi SP Ramesh Singh.
He added that 31 coal-laden and two empty trucks were detected. The land belongs to a Pappy Agarwal of Jayanagar in Guwahati but the depot was leased by Ashok Agarwal of Beltola and Bajrang Agarwal of 15 Mile, Byrnihat.
The Sonapur officer-in-charge and the IC Jorabat have taken over the detained trucks for further investigation.
