SHILLONG: The central executive committee (CEC) of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has served a 20-day ultimatum to non-Congress legislators and candidates to answer their questionnaire.
The questionnaire was released on Saturday, the last day of the hunger strike, at Additional Secretariat parking lot.
There are over 31 questions for non-Congress candidates and legislators and additional three questions for BJP on Hindutva ideology, beef ban etc.
“We have to be prepared with the questionnaire so that if a candidate visits our houses for election campaign and if they don’t respond, we are going to give them our answer in the coming election,” general secretary of HYC Robertjune Kharjahrin said during a meeting to end the hunger strike.
The questionnaire will not be given to Congress legislators and MLAs as they have already given their answer while they are in power, President Peter Lawai said, “No to Congress. What has the MUA-II government done? People should wake up and question the performance of the government in these five years.”
HYC’s Clean Congress campaign will begin from Monday. He reiterated that the political parties must include the 14-charter demand of the organisation with the issue of Inner Line Permit as their top priority.
On the other hand, the organisation has threatened to intensify its agitation if the state government does not pass an official resolution in the next two remaining days of session.
Kharjahrin warned that the organisation will not give up its fight if the government remains silent and does not take up the demands given by the organisation.
The leader of HYC also urged the youths to not get misguided, especially at a time when the state is going for elections. He asked them not to be flattered by politicians who fool people by using money power.
