SHILLONG: The northeastern region has been relatively peaceful in the past few years, said Intelligence Bureau Director Rajiv Jain on Saturday.
Addressing the dikshant parade of the 43rd basic course of North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) at Umiam, around 20km from Shillong, Jain said it is the responsibility of the new trainee police officers to ensure that the peace is sustainable and people’s belief in peace continues because that is the key to the region’s development.
“With the Centre’s Act East Policy, you are the threshold of transformative change and you have to play an enabling role,” he said.
Terming North East as a melting pot, he also lauded the facilities and faculty at the police academy.
“Policing is service to the society and nation,” he added.
He also urged the new trainee officers to be disciplined and be firm in implementing laws.
Earlier, 35 trainee police officers of the 43rd basic course took oath during the parade and the trainees include three lady officers in the rank of deputy SP (14), inspectors (9), sub-inspector (8) and Jemadar (4).
Twenty-five are from Nagaland, six from Manipur, two from Mizoram and one each from Arunachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
