NONGSTOIN: The Congress, despite its “reported defection”, is the only party that can run the government in Meghalaya, said the party’s candidate from Nongstoin AC Gabriel Wahlang on Monday.
Wahlang also said the party workers here were “not interested in publicising their meetings and strength of the party”. He was addressing a gathering at a block meeting that was attended by over 1,500 supporters and members.
“Other political parties thought that the Congress in Nongstoin is no more because of the change in the party’s strategies… the Congress is the only party that can bring respite to the people of Nongstoin by bringing about development,” Wahlang said at Congress Bhavan.
Congress working president MPCC James Lyngdoh criticized the BJP-led NDA government for its “false promises” and people of Meghalaya “will not accept” the saffron party’s interference.
“BJP is trying to convince other regional parties in the state to weaken the Congress but in no time, these parties will realise the working policy of BJP. The people of the state will not accept the presence and interference of the saffron party,” Lyngdoh said.
