TURA: The Garo Students Union (GSU) on Tuesday condemned the recent fatal assault on a student from Tura by his neighbours in Punjab.
The 21-year-old boy from Tura’s Nakham Bazar, Ashish Prasad, who passed out from Sherwood School with distinction in higher secondary in 2012, was pursuing his mechanical engineering from Lovely Professional University at Phagwara Punjab.
On December 7, Prasad was allegedly assaulted by his neighbours over birthday celebrations in his house. He died the next morning.
“This is not the first case of assault on students from the North East. In the past also, there have been several cases where students from the region have been bullied or manhandled. We strongly condemn the incident and urge students as well as citizens to protest against it,” said GSU.
The union also offered condolences to the bereaved family members of the victim.
