NPP names candidates from Umsning, Pynthorumkhrah

SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) has declared two candidates for Umsning and Pynthorumkhrah Assembly constituencies for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The two candidates are:  Thomas Malai from Umsning constituency who will face sitting Congress MLA Celestine Lyngdoh and Probity Nongpluh from Pynthorumkhrah who will face sitting MLA A L Hek.

Speaking to reporters, NPP state president WR Kharlukhi asserted that people in Garo Hills embraced the party and were wary of Congress.

He cited the instance of the MP bye-elections where Congress suffered heavy loss in 23 constituencies which led to massive victory for National People’s Party president, Conrad Sangma.

Kharlukhi informed that that the fourth and fifth lists of NPP poll candidates will be announced in the first week of January in 2018 which will also feature the names of MLAs from other parties who will join the party.

The MLAs who have openly declared their intention to join the NPP include veteran Congress leaders, Prestone Tynsong and Rowell Lyngdoh while few others who are keeping mum on the matter are Sniawbhalang Dhar, Ngaitlang Dhar and Comingone Ymbon.
