Tyisam festival gets underway  at Baghmara

TURA: The much awaited two-day ‘Tyisam Festival’ was kicked off at Simsang beach in Baghmara of South Garo Hills District on Wednesday amidst huge participation of people from four blocks including visitors from other parts of Garo Hills and the state.

The festival is being organised by the district administration in collaboration with state Tourism Department, Arts and Cultural Society and others.

Local MLA of Siju-Rongara Constituency, Rophul S Marak who inaugurated the event as the chief guest called upon the people to join their hands together in bringing the culture together.

“Our dialects may defer, we may belong to a different background but our identity and our vision are the same. Let us join our hands together in building our society for a better tomorrow,” he said.

The two-day festival will feature inter-block traditional dance competition and other traditional events such as serejing ringa, Cheraa, Ajea, Doroa etc. Inter Mahari Tug of war and other water sports and boat races will be other added attractions, including a cruise in the Anaconda Boat.

During the two-day festival, delicacies of the region will also be showcase as part of the local cuisine. Other events like standup comedy show by Garo comedians, Simon George Marak and Jessey James Sangma and Rock Show featuring Black Jack, Hifi Stereo, Haystack Ladies and other local bands will also be part of the festival.
