NONGSTOIN: State BJP leaders have slammed the Congress-led MUA-II government for its failure to bring about development and provide better facilities to the people despite being in power for many years.
BJP state president, Shibun Lyngdoh, while addressing a huge gathering at Shallang in West Khasi Hills, said it has been very difficult for the people to commute to and from Shallang in the past few years because of the dilapidated road condition.
“But now with the two-lane road, connectivity between Khasi and Garo Hills has improved,” Lyngdoh said, while adding that people should know that it the road came up because of the initiative taken by the BJP-led NDA government.
He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road when he visits Shillong on December 16. The road will be linking to ASEAN countries via Moreh, Myanmar.
“The BJP-led NDA government wants to declare the Northeastern states, particularly Meghalaya, an organic hub so that people from the state can transport goods to ASEAN countries,” he added.
BJP state vice president Sumita S Banerjee said while the NDA government led by Narendra Modi has introduced as many as 116 schemes in the country, the Congress-led MUA government in Meghalaya has failed to introduce such schemes apprehending that BJP would get all the credit.
The”Beti Bachao Beti Parhao” scheme introduced by Modi has not been implemented in the state since girls in Meghalaya are protected by their families.
“Despite protection the girls also need education. But still the scheme has not been implemented. Besides, the state lacks government institutions where the scheme is applicable,” she added.
The meeting was chaired by BJP national council member, D.D. Sohphoh in the presence of BJP state vice president David Kharsati, mandal president Sanjana Areng Rongjeng and aspiring candidate from Mawshynrut, Petrus Sangma among others.
