SHILLONG: A day before the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Meghalaya, the state BJP suffered a jolt with a state executive member, Ehkupar Nongrum, resigning from the party.
Nongrum informed that he tendered his resignation from the party on December 13 and submitted the letter to BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh.
He is expected to officially join the National People’s Party (NPP)on December 19.
Speaking to reporters, Nongrum said he has decided to join the NPP as it is the only party which can bring a change in the style of governance and serve the needs of the people.
He said the reason to leave the BJP was a personal decision and nothing else. Asked if he would contest the upcoming election on an NPP ticket, he said, “It depends on the party leadership as right now I cannot comment more on this subject matter.”
He informed he had also contested the 2013 elections on a BJP ticket from Nongthymmai constituency and got around 3000 votes.
