Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, PWD Minister MM Danggo and Congress MPs Vincent Pala and Wansuk Syiem skipped the official programme related to the inauguration of the Shillong-Tura road project at Polo Grounds.
NPP leader and Tura MP Conrad Sangma was present on the occasion.
However, the chief minister and the PWD minister took out time to see the Prime Minister off at Upper Shillong helipad.
Pala on the other hand said he had given in writing to the concerned authorities his inability to attend the programme since he was busy for the inauguration of Don Bosco College at Khliehriat.
“I could not even attend the function of the new party president Rahul Gandhi,” Pala said.

PM and church leaders
Before his departure at 3.30 pm, the Prime Minister met Catholic, Presbyterian and Baptist church leaders at Upper Shillong helipad.
The representatives of the church met the Prime Minister separately.
Union Minister KJ Alphons, who was present during the meeting, said the church leaders extended their support to Modi for his initiatives to help the poor and the downtrodden.
“They said the church is with him in his endeavour to uplift the poor and the downtrodden,” Alphons said.
According to Alphons, the church leaders did not raise any issues other than to express their appreciation of the good work being done for the citizens of the country.
