JOWAI: A nine-year-old boy who went missing on Saturday night has been allegedly murdered at Mookyndur village in West Jaintia Hills.
The body of Edi Shylla was found floating in the village well on Sunday morning.
Edi went missing from his sister’s betel nut shop in the village. The child was strangulated and beaten to death, police said.
The victim’s family suspects Amos Synkon who came to the shop on Saturday night in an inebriated condition. Synkon tried to woo Edi’s sister but the
child was a hindrance for him. So he lured Edi out of the shop, killed him and dumped the body in the well, the police suspect. “The early sign does not indicate that the boy died of drowning as there are injury marks in many parts of his body,” said a senior police officer. The body was sent to Ialong District Hospital for autopsy. The accused person was arrested and brought to the court but the boy’s relatives have not yet lodged any complaint as they are busy with the last rites.
