SHILLONG: Sohra Government College Students’ Union (SGCSU) had threatened to agitate if the state government remains indifferent to their demand for appointing a permanent principal of the college and served a one month ultimatum to the government.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Edelbert Khongrymmai, president ka SGCSU said that the college does not have a permanent principal for two months.
“The absence of a full time principal has affected the functioning of the college in terms of teaching and finances,” he said.
On the other hand, the SGCSU also expressed concern on the delay of the state government to implement the scheme of Rs 1.40 crore as announced by the Minister in charge of Higher and Technical Education, Roshan Warjri.
“We have made a follow up on this matter by meeting the principal secretary of education who assured that the scheme will be implemented within the month of October. But till date, there is no sign as such,” Khongrymmai said.
The SGCSU has demanded from the state government to establish a hostel for the students which will be convenient for the students from Shella, Pynursla and Shillong.
