SHILLONG: Suspended Congress member PN Syiem will join the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Tuesday but his role in the party is yet to be decided.
Replying to a query on Sunday, Syiem said his role would be discussed later. He added that it was too early to say about other leaders joining the party.
The KHADC chief executive member will be welcomed into the PDF fold during a public meeting at Polo Fifth Ground.
Suspended from the
) Congress for three years, he resigned as MLA on Friday and subsequently resigned from the Congress party on Saturday. Talking about the party’s election agenda, Syiem emphasised protection of the rights of indigenous people and strengthening of the Sixth Schedule to preserve the unique administration system. “When we come to the government we will move the Centre with regard to central laws. Successive governments have depended on emotions, favoritism but we need laws, regulations and policies which will guide us,” he said.
During Tuesday’s meeting, PDF will create awareness on the issues that the party will fight for in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
