GUWAHATI In a first of its kind initiative by any state government in the country, 100 Yoga centres have been set up in 100 blocks spread over 33 districts in Assam.
The centers were inaugurated by the state’s health minister Dr Himanta Bishwa Sarma at a central function held at Assam Administrative Staff College here on Tuesday.
The health minister Sarma said these 100 yoga centres had been opened under Assam government’s Yoga Project with an objective to spread yoga culture in the state besides imparting Yoga teaching. Each of these centres are manned by two Yoga Mitra and one yoga teacher who will be paid by the state government.
To begin with, these centers will conduct yoga classes three times a day during 6 A.M to 8 A.M and 6 P.M. to 7 P.M every day. Later classes will be conducted for various sections of people like sportspersons, pregnant women etc.
The state government has provided Rs five lakh each to set up these 100 centres which will be later upgraded to Yoga cure centres. These centres are being set up in coordination with altogether 14 NGOs.
The minister informed that similar centres will be set up in the rest of the blocks in the state in the next financial year.
The minister further informed that Assam government had drawn up plan to set up two Ayurveda Hospitals at Majuli and Dudhnoi at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore each.
