SHILLONG: As residents in the areas outside the jurisdiction of Shillong Municipality Board continue to face problem for getting necessary permissions   for electricity connection and construction of their houses, the former Minister and Pynthorumkhrah legislator, A L Hek has asked the Chief Minister to   review the entire process of according permission to make people’s life easier

“I have recently asked Chief Minister to review the matter and he agreed to review it,” Hek told reporters

According to Hek, it is the responsibility of every legislator to provide basic requirements to people and to reach out to them, and   people outside the municipal areas are having lot of difficulties to obtain permission first of all to construct buildings and then to get permission for electricity.

While asking the government to ensure that people are not troubled while seeking necessary permissions, Hek maintained that auditing for safety purpose of the buildings was necessary since Shillong fell under Seismic Zone 5.

Hek said that after completion of the house, the next step was to supply electricity and people after even paying necessary fees to the Government were asked to buy the electric poles for providing connection to their houses.

“People have to buy electric poles, so that electric poles should belong to the individuals and not to the Government,” he said.
