SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has declared PN Syiem as the party’s chief ministerial candidate at a gathering of thousands of PDF supporters at 5th Ground, Polo Hills on Tuesday.
Ivanlumlang Marbaniang, president of PDF also announced that Syiem had been entrusted with the role of chairman of coordination committee of the party.
In his speech, Marbaniang pointed to the implicit leadership role of Syiem in PDF even as Syiem remained mum about his role in the party for many months while president of the party’s women’s wing, Grace Kharpuri said that the formation of the party had been mooted four and half years back.
Syiem who is currently the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), formally joined the PDF on Tuesday.
Marbaniang released the slogan of the party, “If not now, when” (Mynta, ne lano pat), while Syiem released the leaflet containing the 16 numbers of agenda of the PDF. The party also released the party’s song on the day.
