SHILLONG/TURA: The BJP workers in Meghalaya celebrated the victory of the party in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and vowed to repeat the same in poll-bound Meghalaya.
In Shillong, at a function held at the party office on Oakland Road on Monday, BJP state leaders and workers celebrated the victory by bursting crackers and distributing sweets in the evening.
BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said while party workers celebrated the victory in the two states, this would be the time to work hard to ensure the victory of its candidates in Meghalaya.
Later, speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said the party is prepared for the Assembly polls as many booth level meetings were held.
Other leaders, including Bashai Khongwir, Edmund Sangma and David Kharsati also spoke on the occasion.
East Garo Hills too celebrated the victory. Party workers burst fire crackers and exchanged sweets outside their district office in Williamnagar.
“The victory in the two states is an indicator of what is to come in Meghalaya also. We are going to ensure the party’s victory in all the three assembly seats of East Garo Hills next year because of the strong leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders like Meghalaya in-charge Nalin Kohli and state president Shibun Lyngdoh,” said East Garo Hills district president Rakesh Marak.
Former state civil service officer (MCS) Santosh R Marak, a contender for the BJP party ticket in Williamnagar, said, “Change is coming to Meghalaya also because people across the state want it and nothing can stop change.”
