TURA: The BJP is leaving nothing to chance for the upcoming Assembly elections slated for early next year and despite the ongoing holiday season it continues to organise rallies and hold meetings to strengthen its organisational structure at the grassroot level, the latest being a mammoth rally of its booth level workers or Karyakartas at the stronghold of Meghalaya’s Sericulture and Weaving Minister, Clement Marak, in Selsella constituency of West Garo Hills on Wednesday.

Addressing the booth level workers at Haldibari village, party’s Golokganj MLA in Assam, Ashwini Ray Sarkar, exuded confidence that the next five years would be of the BJP in Meghalaya.

“Congress is being rejected by the people in several states of the North east. They have been voted out of power in Assam and Manipur recently, lost Arunachal Pradesh and has failed to make a comeback in Nagaland and Tripura. Soon the people of Meghalaya will throw them out of power because of their corrupt practices,” claimed Golokganj legislator Sarkar while addressing the BJP karyakartas.

He accused Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma of encouraging family-oriented politics and neglecting credible party leaders from progressing in the Congress leading to large scale desertions even by MLAs.

He cited the example of the chief minister’s wife and his younger brother getting party tickets and becoming legislators while his sister-in-law is an MDC in the GHADC.

“The Congress in Meghalaya has encouraged corruption and patronised corrupt officers whereas in Assam we have put in jail scores of officers for the very same crime. If BJP comes to power in Meghalaya, corrupt officers will not be spared,” said Sarkar while citing the recent arrest of several Assam civil service officers.

Allegations against the Congress of taking credit for central projects was also raised by BJP state vice president Sumitra Banerjee who claimed that central schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi were either being deprived or misrepresented.

“The Congress is even trying to take credit for PM Modi’s mega scheme Ujjwala Yojana that provides free LPG cooking gas connection for poor families and the distribution of free and affordable LED bulbs scheme under Ujala Yojana for everyone. People need to know the truth” said Banerjee as she galvanized the party workers to provide the true story to the people of Meghalaya.

Others who spoke on the occasion included state president of the BJP Shibun Lyngdoh, GHADC MDC and minority Morcha head Sofiur Rahman.
