MAWKYRWAT: Minister MM Danggo said on Tuesday the Congree would retain the two seats of Mawkyrwat and Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills.
Speaking at a meeting organised by the Mawkyrwat Block Congress Committee here, the minister called upon the party workers in Mawkyrwat constituency to work hard and make sure that Carness Sohshang wins the election in 2018.
“According to reports received from various zones in Mawkyrwat Constituency, I have high hope that we will be able to win again from this constituency besides Ranikor,” Danggo said.
Danggo also said in every party there are party workers, supporters and followers.
“There are workers who were working very hard and there are those that just want to show that they work hard but are not working. There are supporters that support the party because of ideology and principles and there are those who supports only if they gain something. There are followers that followed the leaders blindly without knowing the ideology of the party and in this category also there are opportunists who want personal benefits,” Danggo said, adding that in his party he did not want to see any opportunists or any ‘lymbit’ (bat).
The Minister expressed disappointment over the criticism by some NGOs who claimed that the inauguration of the foundation stones of various road projects in Ranikor was a tactic to woo voters, saying that the foundation stones have to be laid because of the norms.
“The stones were laid because of the norms and it’s not politics because they were laid after getting sanction,” Danggo said.
Regrets for Rowell
Danggo expressed regrets that senior leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Rowell Lyngdoh is leaving the party to join NPP.
“I regret seeing him leave the party, but I wish him good luck,” Danggo said, adding that the party in South West Khasi Hills was grateful to Lyngdoh for the development he has brought through the party.
Meanwhile, Carness Sohshang, ticket aspirant from Mawkyrwat, requested party workers here to work hard to ensure victory.
He also promised that if he wins, he will spend 15 days in a month in the constituency to understand the problems of the people and try to find solutions.
Others who spoke include MPCC working president James S Lyngdoh and president of the South West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee and Ranikor MDC Manstudy Nongrem.
