SHILLONG: The newly constructed road from Oakland to Polo has been turned into a one-way route by the Shillong traffic police on a trial basis.
East Khasi Hills superintendent of police, Davis Marak said the police have made the road one way on a trial basis after receiving feedback on the possibility of accidents on the road if a vehicle proceeding towards Oakland stops there, since the road is too steep.
Marak said that another reason for the trial is that it becomes difficult for vehicles to stop once it climbs the incline.
Presently, vehicles are being allowed to go to Polo from Oakland while the other side has been turned into a no entry zone.
“We are taking feedback and if we find its working well, we will notify it,” Marak said. The 505-metre road which was inaugurated earlier this year has been constructed at a cost of Rs 7.58crore.
