SHILLONG: Former president of Federation Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP), Sounder Cajee formally joined National People’s Party on Wednesday and termed it as a “great day” for him.
Speaking to reporters here, Cajee said, “NPP will lead the government and my supporters asked me to join the party so that I will be guided by the veteran leaders.”
He hoped that the party ticket for the South Shillong constituency would be given to him.
Cajee, who had joined BJP in May in the presence of the party’s national spokesperson, Nalin Kohli, said the supporters and leaders of different booths decided to rethink and review his membership in BJP.
It was later decided he should join NPP and subsequently tendered his resignation to state BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh on November 7.
Cajee said ticket allotment from BJP has not been announced which made it difficult for him to prepare for the polls. He appreciated NPP for giving out forms at the earliest and declaring candidates for the polls.
Meanwhile, NPP state president W. R Kharlukhi said the mood of the people was in favour of NPP. “We will not let the people down,” Kharlukhi said, adding that state is waiting for an NPP wave.
On the allegations that the NPP and BJP are working together, he said it was poll-time propaganda of the political rivals.
The state NPP has received a major boost with many legislators and party supporters opting for the party.
