SHILLONG: Christmas is the time to be with loved ones but for some professionals, it is the hectic period of the year and definitely not the right time for fun and frolic.
While most people spend their Christmas and New Year holidays with at home, traffic personnel, police officers, nurses, paramedics and fire fighters continue to perform their duties to ensure that others are safe during the festivity.
Referring to these professionals’ hard life, PWD Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh urged the heads of various departments to segregate workers based on their faith and make special efforts to allow them, especially Christians, to be at home with their families during Christmas.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Lyngdoh said it is a challenge for people in essential services to get a chance to be with their families. She even urged people working in essential services to make a special request to the heads of their departments to be at home.
