SHILLONG: An auto-carrier caught fire on the IGP road around 11.25 am on Wednesday.
Onlookers said the vehicle caught fire when it was running. The rear part of the three-wheeler was suddenly on flames that prompted the driver to stop the vehicle. The driver tried to douse the fire but it had already destroyed some of the goods.
As the crowd gathered at the site, the panicked driver told the onlookers that among the boxes containing some materials, which were partly burnt, one was missing. SP East Khasi Hills Davis Marak said it was a minor fire and the driver was not injured.
