SHILLONG: The price of liquor in the state is expected to decrease following the decision of the State Cabinet to amend necessary excise for rationalising the pricing mechanism by the retailer and also by keeping in mind the market behaviour.
After the State Cabinet meeting here on Thursday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the classification cost price based on these brands are high and that the government even received petitions indicating that the competitive market is being affected.
The Department of Excise prepared a proposal to rationalise overall pricing by reviewing the ad valorem on different IMFL brands.
According to the chief
minister, as per the new proposal, the brand of Deluxe prestige will be reduced by Rs 25 per case, deluxe premium by Rs 150 per case, semi premium by Rs 200, premium by Rs 200, super premium by Rs 100, liquor/wine by Rs 1,000 and beer by Rs 1,500 per case.
The Cabinet has also assured that it will mop up more revenue for the department.
