JOWAI: Vehicles were stranded for several hours on the stretch between Kong-Ong in East Jaintia Hills and Ialong in West Jaintia Hills.
This correspondent had travelled to and from Umkiang to Jowai but was stranded in heavy traffic jam along with many other vehicles along the East and West Jaintia Hills National Highway.
The delay apparently was caused by the police checks conducted on coal-laden trucks besides “negligent driving” by some truckers, particularly overtaking by light vehicles from either side.
The vehicle of BSF DIG (G), Vinay Kumar who had gone to Umkiang village on the Meghalaya-Assam border as the chief guest of a football tournament there on Friday, was also stranded for some time in the traffic jam. Kumar expressed unhappiness at the state of communication on the highway.
