SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has condemned the vandalisation of Christmas celebration event in Rajasthan and the desecration of the hymnals and Holy Scriptures.
Earlier this year, ten churches were forced to close their doors in Tamil Nadu. Next came the arrest of a Christian priest in Madhya Pradesh, while the congregations were singing carols.
Then in Uttar Pradesh at Aligarh, Christian schools were warned not to celebrate Christmas. After that, a church in Kerala was affected and now the trouble is in Rajasthan and this time with a difference, because the police arrived with VHP terrorists to stop and vandalise the Christmas event at Pratapgarh in Rajasthan, and two tribal Christians were arrested, the MPYC said.
The saffronisation has spread to an extent where the police are carrying out what are usually the crimes done by Sangh groups, it said.
In the case of Rajasthan, the police denied written permit, halted the event, vandalised, and then arrested Christians under false charges.
The MPYC said, “A very important fact that we must be aware of is that the police arrested the Christians on the false charge of conversion. Slowly, but surely, a pattern is emerging,” the MPYC added.
The Committee has condemnd the vandalisation of the event in Rajasthan and the polarisation of the country being done on religious lines and urged the people, across religious, ethnic and social lines, to stand together against threat to democracy before it is too late.
