Eight legislators to resign on Friday before joining NPP

SHILLONG: After the recent resignation of Congress legislator and KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem, eight legislators who are set to join NPP will formally resign from the Assembly on Friday.
NPP state president WR Kharlukhi said on Tuesday that the eight legislators after quitting from the Assembly will formally join NPP on January 4 at Polo Grounds.
The legislators are Rowell Lyngdoh, Prestone Tynsong, Sniawbhalang Dhar, Ngaitlang Dhar and Comingone Ymbon, all from the Congress, and UDP legislator Remington Pyngrope and two Independents, Stephanson Mukhim and Hopeful Bamon.
Earlier, three MDCs – HS Shylla, Jansing Tynsong and Pyniaid Sing Syiem – had joined NPP.
According to Kharlukhi, there is a bright prospect for the party in the 2018 polls as many MLAs, MDCs and other leaders are extending support.
NPP expects a massive rally at Polo Grounds since supporters and workers of the eight legislators from their respective constituencies will join Friday’s gathering.
Earlier, the rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who kick-started the BJP’s campaign and that of PDF leader PN Syiem had attracted crowd.
Meanwhile, Congress members in Ri Bhoi are expected to join NPP on Wednesday.
