SHILLONG: A musical play, Na Shata Dar, picked up from noted Khasi poet Soso Tham’s Sah beit ia u prek, (Drive the nail aright) was staged by the Mawshamok on the 77th death anniversary of Soso Tham recently.
The play sought to draw the attention of people to the journey of Tham who made his foray into the philosophical realm of poetry writing.
Speaking to reporters, scriptwriter Iasaid Khongji observed that Tham had faced many obstacles in life in terms of writing as he had minimal educational qualification.
Randolf Mawlieh, director of the play, said, “In the writings of Soso Tham, there are many hidden layers.”
The short duration of time did not deter the two to dwell deep into the symbolic writings of Tham.
Mawlieh added that the play is of 20 minutes and the two will venture into some other works of Soso Tham soon.
The name of the open group, Mawshamok, points to the awakening of the people and to reignite in the indigenous people the love for culture and tradition.
On the other hand, Khongji said the manner of reading and writing of literature is getting dry and expressed concern that Khasi language is getting weak.
